Today is a big day here in Portland. Not only is it a Wednesday which puts us squarely in the middle of the week, but it’s also time for Ignite Portland 8! If you’re asking what it Ignite is there are already posts out there to tell you. Haven’t been to one before? Here’s a post to tell you how to make the most out of it. I hope you can make it, I do. I really do. I think you’ll like it.
But I’m not here to talk to you about your entertainment needs. There are a whole bunch of other people working on making Ignite entertaining. This time it’s my job to ask you to think of others. Yes. Others. You know other people that co-exist in this city of ours. I want you (and you, and yes even you right there shaking your head at me) to take a moment to think about the needs of others.
With that in mind, before you head out the door to Ignite Portland 8, grab a can, box, bag, jar or what have you of non-perishable food and bring it with you to the Bagdad tonight. We’ll be there collecting it for the Oregon Food Bank.
We were honored when the good folks at Legion of Tech invited us to have a food drive. Not only do they give so much back to the community by providing fantastic events that are free to attend, but by asking 30 Hour Day to be a part of the festivities they’re reaching out even further to help those that really need it.
So come on down to the Bagdad tonight. Doors open at 5:30 and the show starts at 7, you don’t need a ticket to get in… but it would be really great if you had a non perishable food item in hand. Since you know, you’re unencumbered by a ticket and all. Once you’re in the lobby wander on over to our table, drop your food in the barrel and maybe say “hi”. Then you can enjoy the show.
